I've seen what OGG can do. I'm sure most here has. I know what you mean though. MP3 is great for encoding. Flash, video (recorded), etc., I use MP3. As for streaming, I use OGG.

OGG is going no where. No major players support it. The OGG audio format will never stand a chance unless Apple and Amazon start offering it, but why would they when MP3 and AAC work so well? The video format... yeah, again with Apple and Amazon and Google. You also can't legitimately put any form of DRM in there without giving the public the code to your DRM, making it largely useless to do.
OGG is a format that will never gain any traction at all, I think.
Re: Firefox 4 Set to Support HTML 5 « Result #3 Today at 4:17pm »
Great. Mozilla are essentially passing the book. So, I, the streamer pays... As far as I'm concerned, my Adobe licensing covers me. They can stick h.264 up their asses.
Eh, I'm not really a fan. I've always appreciated Google's simple approach to things. However with the recent changes to Youtube and now Google search, I'm starting to like them a little less.
Just wait 'til you see what Google have planned for YouTube over the next month or so...
Here's a hint. Notice how they are removing a lot of the plain web stuff?
Not sure if they are rolling over into YouTube with regards to realtime searching, however a "video wall" might be something to watch out for (only speculation).
I also predict that "Google Video" and YouTube will be completely integrated soon.
I hope not. Google Video is still useful in finding hard to reach videos that really aren't allowed on YouTube.
And the real time search was already somewhat implemented. You can now search without leaving the video page.

Re: Firefox 4 Set to Support HTML 5 « Result #6 Today at 12:41pm »
h.264 will be coming to Firefox, Scorp. The group that licenses it has said they will allow it to be implemented for free (the true reasoning behind Mozilla not jumping on board) forever so long as the ones using the standard will not profit from the use of it. If they profit (say... Hulu or Netflix start using it, or YouTube starts doing more rentals), then they have to pay the licensing fee. Browsers, so long as they are free, will be able to implement support for it without having to pay anything.
I'd expect it to be supported by Firefox soon, though the WebM support means that the largest warehouse of videos on the net will already be supported by Firefox's HTML5 engine.
Also, I really hate that you can't go true full screen with HTML 5 (on YouTube at least). That really sucks.
Yes. That's the one. I don't use h.264 although a lot of my applications (Adobe Live Media Encoder, etc.) support it. I have to stream in OGG because of propriety restrictions (?). I believe this is were the "Plugin-Container" comes in. Like a third party codec support, without the direct attaché to FF.
plugin-container is the process that runs the plugins for Firefox. I forget exactly which version it was implemented in, but Mozilla added a feature to run the plugins outside of firefox.exe. The main selling point was that if a plugin crashed, it wouldn't bring the browser down with it.
h.264 is pretty much becoming standard. The reason Mozilla isn't supporting it is because it isn't open. It still has to be licensed. There are chances that Mozilla will eventually implement support for it, but they are slim. They're moving toward open alternatives, namely OGG and WebM. This, of course, throws everything off since Microsoft announced that their implementation of <video> in IE9 will only support h.264. Other engines also only support specific codecs, and there isn't really one main common one between them (though h.264 is likely to be the most widely supported). It's all a big mess right now.

When it comes to streaming (my own stuff), esp live and HD stuff. I use Flash.
Re: Google Rolls out Realtime Searching « Result #11 Today at 8:09am »
From a coding perspective, it's quite an achievement. However, from a practical perspective... I can see the usefulness, but it can end up being annoying. It's probably one of those things that has to be tried out for a while before it can be accepted. I'm kinda mixed on it right now.
Re: Firefox 4 Set to Support HTML 5 « Result #12 Today at 8:05am »
Firefox already supports HTML5. It has for a while. The selling point is in how much HTML5 it supports. Fx4 does support HTML5 way more than 3.6.x does though.
You're probably thinking of HTML5 video. In that case, Firefox 4 DOES support it to an extent. It doesn't support the h.264 codec, only OGG and WebM (Firefox 3.6.x also supports HTML 5 video, but only with the OGG codec). Some YouTube videos do support WebM as well, so the HTML5 player can be used for them. Though personally, I don't see why anybody would bother. HTML5 video has at least another year or two before it can come anywhere close to the streaming capabilities of Flash and Silverlight.

Someone take a look at this (PB code)... « Result #26 Yesterday at 11:48pm »
..I need a lil help.
Alright so I made this code for my forum. It puts the post text in a speech bubble. Works fine except the part that changes the font color within the bubble.
Code:
<script type="text/javascript"> <!-- //For use on KAI-KANJI ONLY //By Xero.Infection aka Deko var XI=document.getElementsByTagName('td') for (k=0;k<XI.length;k++) { if (XI[k].className.match(/windowbg/i) && XI[k].width=="80%" && XI[k].height=="100%" && XI[k].align == "left"){ XI[k+4].getElementsByTagName("HR")[0].style.display = "none"; XI[k+4].getElementsByTagName("FONT")[0].className = "sbtext"; XI[k+4].innerHTML = "<table width='100%' cellpadding='0' cellspacing='0'><tr><td valign='top' width='1%'><BR><img src='http://members.cox.net/kai-kanji/forum/rounds/arw.png'></td><td width='99%' class='speechbubble'>"+XI[k+4].innerHTML+"</td></tr></table>"; }} //--> </script>
Right now I'm using this portion to edit the text color (with a bit of CSS in the header): XI[k+4].getElementsByTagName("FONT")[0].className = "sbtext";
All the text in the list and any text thereafter goes to the forum default text color. I'm sure there's a way to fix that? Also, if there's a better way to grab the post text I'd like to know. Pliss halp ^^

Bastion coming 2011 from Supergiant Games « Result #27 Yesterday at 8:53pm »
Quote:
"Bastion is the first title from Supergiant Games, an original action role-playing game set in a lush imaginative world, in which players must create and fight for civilization’s last refuge."
At first glance, Bastion seems like your run-of-the-mill action RPG. What appealed to me most when I first saw the trailer were the visuals. Beautiful, vibrant colors and fluid character movements along with detailed terrain give this game a unique look.
However, after watching a few news bits about it, there's more to this game than just pretty colors. A lot of the buzz surrounding this game came from PAX (Penny Arcade Expo), specifically for the style of storytelling. The narration is done in real-time. As you destroy enemies or travel to new areas in the game, a "mysterious voice" chronicles your actions referring to you only as "the kid".
The narrator will reveal parts of the story as you play, aswell as hint at how to kill an enemy or to move to a different part of the map. From what I've read, it's supposed to be very intuitive.
Aside from that, the combat system is (as said by one of the developers) "very action oriented and designed to reward finesse". Which means, it will allow you to develop a style of play as far as dodging/attacking.
I for one, am very effing excited for this.
Bastion is set for a 2011 release. Expect to see it on Xbox and PC. I hear it will be released for other consoles aswell, though nothing confirmed yet. For more information about Bastion or Supergiant Games, check out the links below. See the video in the third link down for the best preview of the narration.

I think you should take some AJAX and mix it with some CSS3, merge in some HTML5, and then when you have a working Canvas, you can use the SVG to make the new audio & video tags awesome.

hmmm...well you have Miles Austin, Emmit Smith, Michael Irvin, LT, Bary Sanders, Jordan Shiply, and Des Briant. Sorry i named alot of Cowboys and Longhorns but they are good players...and famous. Emit and Irvin were part of the triplets. Sanders was the best Running Back ever. Austin was one of the more famous players last year...
So you never played the one position that people actually care about. Good for you.
People care about the running backs and receivers...
When was the last time the big hero was a running back or receiver? Seriously. You've got Reggie Bush. Tjhat's about it. And his shit's being taken away from him. lol. Other than that, it's been Tebow, Manning, Manning, Brady, Bradford, Favre, Sanchez, scarboy in NOLA, etc.
If we're doing positions.... Starting OL entire sophomore year, and one game on DL sophomore year. Junior year I was our DL/DE hybrid. Senior year I was the DL/DE/LB/CB-blitz hybrid. I also lined up at every position besides QB and Safety.

We need a Super Adblock Plus Titanium Edition that blocks the shitty ads and gives us the non-shitty ones. The work required to maintain the filter would be insane, but totally worth it for the sites.
Or, you know, they could just stop putting security threatening, loud and obnoxious, flash banner ads every three inches.
in highschool i played Football and Basketball. Football was starting WR on Varsity as a freshman and also played Defensive back.Basketball i was a shooting guard.

Well, at least they're attempting to remedy their mistakes. That's more than other companies can say.
"Fixing" thus far has basically entailed physically limiting the number of Reddit stories on the front page. It's either 2 or 3 max now. So, in essence, they are censoring their userbase.
So yes, they are "fixing" their mistakes, mainly by making more mistakes.

Haha. Two professors in one day not to show up to the first class outdoes mine (for those of you who are math impaired, 2>1).
By the way, I've heard Macro sucks ass. When I was at Central in their business program and in their business... not even sure what to call it, I lived and went to pretty much every class with the same kids and we had a shit ton of extra curriculars that we had to do. Anyway, when I was there, all the sophomores living on my floor said that Macro was the worst class they had to take at that point. And in terms of toughness of classes, MIT is Mordor to Central's Shire. So have fun. lol
Josh: Not just usability, but it also maximizes the most available space for viewing a webpage.
If they were really worried about that, they could have thrown the tabs in the titlebar like every other browser is and not have had the max width problem.

Re: Interesting Ad On SZ... « Result #73 on Sept 8, 2010, 3:03pm »
Not my problem, Chris. It's their own fault. I really endorse the use of legitimate advertising. Google Text ads are great. Nicely themed from a site's CSS, low bandwidth, fantastic.
The "Zwinky" ads are a piece of shit. Who needs a useless avatar that will come with free adware? Complete waste of adspace. You're probably in agreement?
But yeah, it's a real shame the legitimate ads get blocked also. But, meh. Their loss...

BTW, you mean the Japanese VI/American IV? (Cecil, dark knight, becomes paladin) If so, one of the best games I've ever played. I replay it almost yearly. I need to finish playing all the FF games... currently playing 13, then I'll do 10, then 8 and 9. Maybe X-2 afterwards. Not sure yet since I heard it's a let down. Hey Josh, does this sound familiar? « Result #95 on Sept 8, 2010, 1:23pm »
So, I'm sitting here in my first recitation for 14.02 (Macroeconomics), and the lecturer still hasn't showed up. No, it isn't one of those classes where "recitations start after first lecture." There is no first lecture. This class (at least my format) is entirely recitation based.
So, yeah, Josh, does this sound a little like your first day? I was already planning to switch to a different recitation since I don't like 9am classes, but this kinda just sealed the deal.
Yes, that's my story for the day.
Edit: Ok, new story. The lecturer showed up 15 minutes late. "Bus issues." So, I went to my next recitation.... It's 10:17, class starts at 10 or 10:05... and the lecturer isn't here either. Here's my theory about why this is...
