Personally, I think the center of the head is good, and then as you go towards the outside f the head, bad. Then the rest of the concept just doesn't flow well at all and is too... blah. But you have a good idea going.

The solid part of the header looks good until it starts fading. Just seems like a bit of clash. It looks.. transparent. Even though it is. It's kinda hard to explain, but basically you don't want people to notice certain things (not necessarily true, but if they notice them, they should notice how the item fits in), they should notice the whole template as a whole. Make sense? Like fredy said, good idea going. I think with some refinements it will make an awesome template

I don't exactly like those squares behind the board. They don't match. I like the whole banner... Board is too faded, just fix those and it might look good.
